Henry's Fork Anglers Guides
When we started in 1977, our guide staff consisted of Terry Ross, Jim Vermillion, Jerry Seim and Roy Harrop. Bing Lempke and his son, Chris, assisted us with guiding when we needed some extra help. Rene' Harrop and Mike Lawson also did some guiding when needed. During the last week of June (green drake time) we had more trips than we could handle but, believe it or not, there were weeks in July, August and September when our guides didn't work at all.
It is humbling to think about the part Henry's Fork Anglers has played in the lives of the young people who have moved on to other walks of life. Terry Ross went on to own the Tarpon wear Company, one of the top names in quality fly fishing attire. Jerry Seim is a fly rod designer and developer for Sage Rod Company in Seattle. Jim Vermillion has his own ski tuning business. Kevin Toman is a veterinarian and owns two clinics in California. Jim Campbell is a surgeon in Ohio. Tim Stamm is a perfusionist and he lives in St. Louis. Rick Lawson, is a CPA/CFA and owns a firm in Pocatello. Bob Kelly is a professor at Humboldt State University in California. Bob also owned the West Fork Cabin Camp on the Madison and was the Head Master at the Fenwick Fly Fishing School in West Yellowstone. Derek Loftquist is a chemical engineer in the Bay Area in California. Chris Brand is an attorney in Washington, Pete McCabe is an attorney in California and Terry Gallagher is an attorney in Albuquerque. The Reverend Don Wisner is still a minister in Wisconsin and his son, Stephen, is a teacher there as well. Rob Van Kirk is now a professor at Idaho State University. Bob "Hollywood" Engman is a tug boat operator in Seattle. Chris Austin is a manager for a cellular phone company in Dallas. Mike Atwell is a sales representative for some of the finest fly fishing manufacturers in the business including Sage, Tibor and Umpqua Feather Merchants. David Klein heads the fishing department at Buck's Bags and has 70 employees under his direction. Larry Vaughan left our staff several years ago to become a nurse in Missouri. Mikey Langford is a practicing attorney and Kelly Norwood is a full-time teacher in Lewiston, ID. Ben Colombi has completed his Masters Degree and is pursuing his PhD at the University of Idaho. Shaun Lawson is in Livingston, Montana and working with Gravnetic, a video and web-development firm and still guides part time. On a somber note, Bing Lempke, Bill Rose, and Kevin Sack have passed on leaving their legacy to those who follow in their footsteps.
In 1978, Bob Lamm joined our staff and Curt Barker hired on the next year. These two guides have been the nucleus of our guiding operation since they came onboard. Their experience, professionalism and reputation for excellence have been a major factor in our ability to bring the finest talent available to Henry's Fork Anglers. Bob was internationally recognized for his work with the 1993 "Guide of the Year" award from Fly Rod & Reel Magazine. Curt is equally qualified but we believe it would look prejudicial if the magazine gave the same award to another member of our staff. In addition to Bob and Curt, our current guide staff includes Mark Smith (Smitty), Dom Traverso, Tom Grimes, John Hudgens, Chris Lawson, Dan Kappes, J.D. Miller, Dustin Hegsted, Boman Lapp, and Bob Adams, and Elden Berrett. We don't think you will find a more experienced guide staff anywhere.
